Well, we at Fight The War Within sure have been busy this fall! For the second year in a row, we co-hosted our annual charity car show on October 9th with Veteran Carriers of Savannah! We had an incredible show of support, and raised over $4,600!
On October 13th, we hosted our quarterly Intervene Challenge course at the Armstrong campus of Georgia Southern University. This was our first evening course scheduled during the week, to accommodate students interested in taking part in the course.
In addition, we have been proud to partner with Tosa Coffee Company for 2 months now with our Coffee & Camaraderie events every 3rd Saturday. This is a casual gathering for military, veterans, and first responders, to relax and share good times, in a veteran owned coffee shop. The events will continue on November 20th and December 18th, and we hope to continue this initiative as we cross over into 2022!

As a show of support for the other fantastic organizations in our community, we participated in the Team Savannah for Veterans Scavenger Hunt in historic downtown Savannah on October 23rd. We had a blast! The following weekend, we really got into the Halloween spirit, and took part in the Trick or Treat Festivities with our friends at Savannah Harley-Davidson.
Another partnership in bloom is with veteran owned Debellation Brewing Company. We were excited to have our first event (Grains for Good) with this brand new Richmond Hill brewery on November 3rd. Not only was the evening a huge success, but we were also thrilled to hear that Debellation, in partnership with our friends at Tosa Coffee Company, will be collaborating on a special coffee-infused beer, the sales of which will directly benefit Fight the War Within! We could not be more grateful for the continued support from both of these veteran owned establishments.
The week of Veterans Day was jam packed for our board members and volunteers! On Wednesday, we were proud to sponsor the AAAA Scholarship Golf Tournament at Crosswinds golf course. That evening, we officially welcomed SSG (ret.) James Collins as a member of our board! On Veterans Day, we were honored to take part in the Savannah Veterans Day Parade with our friends from the Veteran’s Council of Chatham County. That Saturday, to culminate a magical (and busy!) week, we joined the Mental Health Symposium’s Brake the Stigma Car Show, where we connected with many other amazing organizations dedicated to fighting mental illness and suicide in our community.
As the holidays creep upon us, we are keeping that momentum going strong. We are excited to host our 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Dinner AND our 2nd Annual Holiday Dinner! Both meals are going to be catered by our good friends at The Dive Savannah, AND we will be collecting donations for them in their mission to provide veterans with the holiday blessings that they deserve. Both the Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas dinner will be free of charge. Thanksgiving will be served from 2 to 5 PM on Thursday November 25th at the American Legion in Thunderbolt. The Holiday feast will be served from 5 to 8 PM on December 25th, Christmas Day, also at the American Legion in Thunderbolt. Leftovers from both feasts will be donated directly to homeless veterans by The Dive. Sign up for the Thanksgiving Dinner >>here<< and sign up for the Holiday Dinner >>here<<.
In addition to good food at our Thanksgiving dinner, we are also working with the YMCA of Coastal Georgia’s Place to Dream Program, whose mission is to provide beds to children in low income housing. We at Fight the War Within have pledged to collect donated gifts for these children via our Amazon wish list, and we will purchase any remaining items so that these children can have the wonderful holiday presents that all children should receive during this season. Check out the link for the wishlist >>here<<. We are also sponsoring our friends at the Wingman Motorcycle Club in their annual toys for tots toy drive and ride.
In addition to our holiday cheer, we are thrilled to announce a brand new initiative and partnership with our friends at Planet Fitness in Statesboro. The newest member of our executive board, SSG (ret.) James Collins, has worked with General Manager and veteran D’Angelo Shaw to dedicate a wall of heroes who have lost their battle to the 22 A-day epidemic can be remembered and honored by those left behind. The first dedication will take place at 10:30 AM on December 2nd, and the second will take place at 10:30 AM on December 16th. We are excited to continue to honor our heroes, and the memories that they left behind.
As always, we are so appreciative of the outpouring of support that we continue to receive from our supporter, partners, and friends, as we continue to fight the battle against mental illness and suicide.
You are not alone. Fight on, warriors.
